Interstate 17 (Black Canyon Freeway), the first interstate highway to be built through the Valley, forms the north-south backbone of the freeway system.

Interstate 17 south of Loop 101 carries a steady stream of traffic through the urban core before terminating at the I-10/I-17 Split in south-central Phoenix.

Project: McDowell Road to Arizona Canal

Description:
Develop and prepare a Design Concept Report analyzing alternative means to provide two additional general purpose lanes in each direction.

Schedule: Phase III of the Regional Transportation Plan

Project: I-17 Screen Wall Project

Description:
Construction of a 5-foot screen wall on the north side of I-17 from 7th Street on the east to 19th Avenue on the west.

Schedule: July – December 2006

Project Funding
The portion of the I-17 (Black Canyon Freeway) project under construction is funded with the half-cent sales tax under the voter-approved Proposition 400. (file size: 3.6MB)
