Study Overview Closures & Restrictions

State Route 801 is a proposed new east-west freeway corridor in western Maricopa County. It would connect existing State Route 85 to the proposed Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway), with a connection to the proposed extension of Loop 303 south of Interstate 10. SR 801 West would connect SR 85 and the proposed Loop 303 in the southwest region of the Valley. The intent of the SR 801 is to improve traffic flow by providing an east/west reliever route for I-10.

Study Update
In January 2007, ADOT and Federal Highway Administration held one agency and one public introductory meeting for this study. Taking into consideration the agency and public comments, the study team has begun evaluating the proposed study area in detail. The study map presented at these meetings is shown below. It outlines the study area and those readily identifiable physical and social elements collected by the study team prior to the meeting. The exhibit from the meeting can be downloaded in a high resolution PDF format.

Study Funding
In November 2004, Maricopa County voters approved a 20 year extension of a half-cent sales tax to fund a comprehensive package of transportation improvements as part of a Regional Transportation Plan. Funding for the plan, which includes $9 billion in regional freeway improvements in Maricopa County, became effective January 1, 2006.
