Project Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation has begun construction of High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes on Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) between Interstate 10 and Gilbert Road. The 12-mile project will include the construction of direct ramps connecting Loop 202 HOV lanes to both the I-10 and Loop 101 (Price Freeway) HOV lanes.

PROJECT BENEFITS
HOV lanes are intended to improve traffic flow, encourage carpooling and expand the regional transit network. HOV lanes are designated for vehicles carrying two or more occupants, Valley Metro buses, certified alternative-fuel vehicles, motorcycles, and emergency vehicles during the hours of 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. All vehicles may use HOV lanes during all other times.

PROJECT SCHEDULE
Construction began in September 2010. The project is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2011.
